Ever look at the JT Swing Team and their performances (or any professional dance routine) and think, “I could never do that or remember that etc. etc.?” Yes, you can. Sometimes it just takes a small step to build that confidence.
And we have a new class for that at 2155!
West Coast Swing dance professional Kellese Key and 2155 owner and instructor, Robert Nelson, will be teaching a new West Coast Swing class starting November 3 built around learning a short routine that incorporates WCS basics, yet with the flexibility to level-up.
The class starts Sunday, November 3 from 7– 8:30pm. Cost is $18 for each class if walk-in or $15 for 4 weeks advanced purchase.
This is a routine-based class. Everyone starts with the core base of the routine and then the instructors will incorporate different skills to level you up to where you are in your dance. “In the three decades I’ve taught, what I’ve seen is that people learn more in a routine. These are fun, simple routines that are built around people having a good time while leveling up their dance,” says Kellese.
The class structure has the first hour learning one or two 8 count patterns. The last half-hour will take the 8-count learned and practice with different musical styles in a jam circle. Each week, new patterns will be introduced to build up into a final routine by the end of the course. And if you miss a class, there will be a short review at the beginning of each week’s class.
“I’m hoping that by taking this no-pressure approach to learn routines it will help grow DFW’s JT Swing Teams and the International Rally’s,” says Kellese. “Those who are afraid of teams or don’t think they’re good enough will benefit from this class helping to get them ready! And if that’s not your thing, it will benefit your social dance, too.”
